Trinity High School participated in Assumption High School’s Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® event on Sunday, March 27, from 2-4:30 p.m. at the Assumption Green.

The nationally-sponsored program raises awareness and provides prevention education about sexualized violence toward women. The event is sponsored by the Mary Byron Project, Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® and Heine Brothers’ Coffee in partnership with Trinity, St. Xavier, Mercy Academy and MensWork.

The Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® event included an all-boy and faculty high-heel relay race around the track, a local band and speeches about dating violence. Representatives from MensWork and the Center for Women and Families were available to speak with attendees.

Mary Byron Scholar students at Assumption work year-round through the Mary Byron Project to promote dating violence awareness, even lobbying in Frankfort for legislative change. The group supports efforts to help build safer, healthier communities. Most recently, they partnered with students working with the Green Dot initiative to end violence one “green dot” at a time.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® was created by Frank Baird in 2001. What started out as a small group of men daring to totter around a park has grown to become a world-wide movement with tens of thousands of men raising millions of dollars for local rape crisis centers, domestic violence shelters and other sexualized violence education, prevention and remediation programs.

In 2007, Baird formed Venture Humanity, Inc, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation. Venture Humanity, Inc. develops peace, violence prevention and community projects. Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® is a Venture Humanity, Inc. project.
