Students in Trinity High School’s Broadcast Journalism class won the Advertising Federation of Louisville’s 12th Annual High School Marketing Challenge Competition held on Nov. 16 at the Green Building on Market Street in downtown Louisville. Trinity submitted the “Best Overall Marketing” program. This year’s competition, which was sponsored by Humana, with support from PNC Bank, asked participants to tackle a major health crisis affecting our community – teen obesity. Seniors Louie Corrons, Marcus Dorsey, Gage Richardson, Mark Shutts and Ross Troop; juniors Jonathan Dunn, Chase Nalley and Ori Youngblood; and sophomore Dodge Fielden created a marketing/advertising campaign for Humana to increase awareness of the issue of teen obesity, its consequences and ideas for prevention. The students developed both traditional marketing/advertising pieces and strategies, such as television commercials, as well as non-traditional viral marketing through the creation of a blog and the use of social media. The students were assisted Mr. Stephen Kertis and Mr. Brett Marshall of Kertis Creative, a local media strategy and development company; Mr. Ziggy Zubric of The Magnetic Group, a local marketing research company; Ms. Amy Zuccaro, a Trinity teacher; and their Broadcast Journalism teacher, Mr. Adam Klein. Through their participation in the competition students gained real-world experience and knowledge about marketing and advertising, not to mention the chance to see their campaign implemented in real life!
